| NS 9357 slides by the classic brick depot at Newton, MS. This town was the location of the Civil War Battle of Newton's Station on April 24, 1863. Union cavalry under Col. Benjamin Grierson attacked deep behind enemy lines and destroyed miles of Confederate trackage. Grierson's raid was the inspiration for the John Wayne movie "The Horse Soldiers." |
