The luxury Blue Train operated a private charter from Pretoria to Bloemfontein for the Macufe Festival (Macufe = Mangaung African Cultural Festival). Northbound on the return journey to Pretoria, the train is just north of Rooiwal station and is passing the outer home and distant semaphore for southbound trains. With replacement of the semaphores due to begin in the next few months, this may well have been the last opportunity to photograph the Blue Train with these classic signals on this route. The train is led by 14E class leader 14-001.
Classes 7E, 9E, 11E, 14E, 15E, 19E, 20E and 21E.
7E & 11E are 25kv AC locos. 9E & 15E are 50kv AC locos and the remainder are dual-voltage (25kv AC & 3kv DC).
