      Remarks & Notes
Led by rebuilt SF30-C 9546 in Kodachrome paint, Santa Fe's Train 408 sails off Raton Pass into Raton, N.M. on Dec. 2, 1989. For help up to the summit (highest point on the ATSF at 7,588-ft.) additional units were only 19 cars behind the head-end power. That's Interstate 25 marring the background, extending from El Paso to the Canadian border.

Aside from Warbonnets and Chiefs, Santa Fe was a workaday railroad like any other. This album showcases that less glamorous--but no less vital--side of the famous ATSF.
