Remarks & Notes

After Milwaukee Road abandoned its western electrification and took down the catenary, Extra 21 East with four SD-40-2s recharges the brake line after making a pick-up at Avery, Idaho on July 19, 1978. The mainline will soon leave the St. Joe River and climb the 1.7% grade over the Bitterroots into Montana.
