The official KiwiRail supported and media covered events based at Christchurch in October were true to location but a little premature. DA 1431 was built in 1957 by General Motors/ Clyde in NSW Australia and was in service with NZ Railways (later Tranz Rail) until 1988. The single track section in this location passes through 5 tunnels on 2% grade which still has regular banking locomotives. The steep hillside has had extensive stabilization and protection work.
