    Remarks & Notes
Train 17, the North Coast Hiawatha has arrived at King St. Station powered by F45s Nos. 6640 and 6625, supported by an E8B converted to a heater car. This view shows the power after being disconnected from the train and is now starting its trip north from King St. to Interbay roundhouse in Seattle. This arrangement was made due to BN's restriction of the use of Amtrak SDP40Fs after some high speed derailments had occurred. This ultimately led to the design of the F40PH, and many of the SDP40Fs went on to serve successfully in high speed freight service on Santa Fe. One thought was that the high center of gravity of the boilers helped lead to derailments of these units. Santa Fe removed the boilers before putting them into freight service.
