| L782's U23Bs traverse the Central Georgia Pines between Collins, Ga. and Ohoopee, Ga. with a much earlier run than normal on the GWI's Georgia Central. These old work horses time clock is getting rather short as the sale and disposition of these classic GEs has already begun. The Georgia Central is the only operator of the remaining ex Southern Railway/Norfolk Southern high hood U23Bs in the U.S. and at last count of this model in general. Only one ex L&N unit remains in revenue service in the U.S. GC 1004. The remaining seven or so high hood models will be gone within the next few months and will close the U Boat chapter once and for all. |
