Ma On Shan Rail is one of the branches of East Rail opened in 2004. KCR ordered 18 sets of the 4-car train named SP1950. In 2007 and 2017, they have gradually taken out from service and reformed for the new rail lines, Kowloon Southern Link and Shatin to Central Link. As of now, most trains have returned service in 8-car formation.
