Devastating Wildfire in full swing. Remote UP 8525 shoves this eastbound upgrade towards Soldier Summit. Up front is UP 5472 and 7460. As the orange and pink color of the image is showing, that is not rain clouds contrasting the photo. In fact it is something caused by a lack of it. The culprit of the smoke is the Wood Hollow Fire that started the day before in Sanpete County. This was one of many wildfires throughout Utah and Colorado in a rough June 2012, which proved disastrous for many. In this case, US-6 and UP's Provo Sub kept moving as they were not at risk by the fire, even though the northern tip of the fire was just over 10 miles away. The cutoff of Highway 89 in Thistle, however, was closed due to its proximity to the fire. The distinct smell of burning brush was very present. By the time Wood Hollow was contained on July 2nd, 160 structures were destroyed, 47000 acres of forest had burned, and one person had perished. The containment and cleanup cost was over $5 million, and the amount of destruction made it Utah's worst wildfire of 2012.
