| UP 70, a DD35A head up a freight getting ready to depart La Grande for points east. SD40-2 3070 is part of a helper set waiting its next assignment. During this period the UP offered competitive schedules to BN and MILW out of the Pacific Northwest in spite of its nearly 200 mile longer route to Chicago. |
