"Short on Horsepower"
Having nearly stalled on the grade at Gulf Summit the NYS&W was faced with a decision; send the train up Sparta Mountain with the two CSX engines and hope for the best or have a crew bring additional power from the mornings SU-100. The latter of the two was the preferred method by the railroad resulting in this train receiving two additional NYS&W which they tacked behind the CSX power. The train is seen here about to meet WS-4 in Sparta Junction as they brought up the power for the detour train along with an engine and cars for the evening Sparta job. |
