With the lead units in notch eight and the Lacon pusher (an ES44AC) coupled up to the rear, a southbound grain train begins its assault on the 1.1% grade up through Holmes Gap.
Coal and steel don't go bad. This album features long, slow, heavy freight trains; drag freights, slop freights, dead freights, etc. Trains with lots of power, and lots of different cargo slogging along behind.
Alabama may not be considered the most scenic state, or have a particularly exciting railroad scene, but it's where my roots are, and I'm proud to represent my home state through these scenes of trains in the Heart of Dixie.
