After making a set-out at Goldthwaite, Texas, Santa Fe Extra 283C throttles up to resume its westward trip to Brownwood and further to the panhandle on June 19, 1971. Goldthwaite agency was closed on Dec. 8, 1972, and the depot was subsequently demolished. F7 283C was rebuilt into CF-7 No. 2460 in May 1977, and later for a while worked as Amtrak 588.
