On its first night in service after being rebuilt in Altoona and painted in Chattanooga, Southern SD40 #3170 passes the building where the decision was likely made to purchase this unit: the former Southern Railway headquarters on Spring Street in Atlanta. Directly behind 3170 is the old tower that controlled movements into and out of Terminal Station. The station was located at the far left, in the area now occipied by the Richard B. Russell Federal Building. This portion of Atlanta has seen a recent rebirth, with older factory buildings and warehouses being converted into modern condominiums. Though vacant, Norfolk Southern still owns the Spring Street office building, and many TV shows and movies have used the property for film sets. The most popular being AMC's "The Walking Dead".
