Around all the communication wires two AT&SF derricks carefully pick up a loaded Columbia Southern Chemical tank car with a PPG herald at Caldwell, Texas on Jan. 4, 1971. Note semaphores were still in service as well as the steam-powered derrick. Most derricks have been retired and derailment clean-up services today are provided by contractors whose side-boom caterpillars can work circles around the cumbersome, slow cranes.
