    Remarks & Notes
Southern Pacific GP40P-2 7600 is one of only three GP40P-2s constructed by EMD. Built in November 1974, SP GP40P-2s 3197-3199 served on the railroad's Penninsula Commutes (between San Francisco and San Jose) for years. In June of 1985, these engines were replaced on the commutes and as they entered freight service, they had their steam generators removed, the fuel tanks were enlarged and they were renumbered 7600-7602. The former SP 3197 (which was one of SP's three Bicentennial units in the 1970s) was photographed on March 11th, 2001, in Roseville, California. To see SP 3197 in Bicentennial colors, click HERE.
