The Keenan switch job had the rare task today of picking up 6 loads and a switch engine from the idled Mesabi Nugget plant. Steel Dynamics, the parent company of Mesabi Nugget and Mining Resources, which supplied the concentrate, announced that the two Iron Range facilities will remain idled indefinitely, affecting about 200 workers. Steel Dynamics had said the two facilities will remain idle for at least two years because of low iron prices, which had made the facilities unprofitable.
