Last Light. The shadows are growing long as a short northbound manifest blasts up the final miles of the grade between Cougar and Grass Lake in the final minutes before the sun drops below the mountain slopes to the west. Perhaps the best part about this picture is that I sprinted up the side of this cut, dropped my tripod on the ground, turned around, turned the camera on and took perhaps 5 seconds to frame the shot before shooting. Sometimes, last-second maneuvers can make for the best shots!
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
