Norfolk Southern acquired 100 ex Union Pacific SD90MACs from EMD. The purpose: to rebuild the aging and problematic locomotives into reliable engines. This particular unit, NS SD90MAC 7299, will be the first locomotive to be rebuilt as an "SD70ACU" locomotive, featuring a new EMD cab. Here, 7299 is being stripped down outside of the Juniata Shops.
