Southern Pacific SD45R 7477 (ex-SP SD45 8982) leads three Tunnel Motors as it leads a westbound fruit block out of Ripon, in California's verdant Central Valley. The date is June 27th, 1986, and through this part of the Valley the SP's San Joaquin Subdivision parallels both Highway 99 and an irrigation canal. And Modesto's Tropical Motel is advertising rooms for just $27.00 per night!
