With four SD-40T-2’s eastbound D&RGW 5411 enters dramatic Gore Canyon on June 9, 1980 where UP Chairman Edward Harriman thought he was going to build a dam on the Colorado River in the early 1900’s to block David Moffat’s expanding railroad that would compete. As you can see, it is all loose rock and no bedrock to support a dam. Now the D&RGW is part of the UP system.
