| Since some years the ASM is running a gravel freight train on its network. The train runs for the company Hurni AG from the mine at Finsterhennen to the gravel plant at Sutz. The cars were bought used in former East-Germany and were adapted for the service. Three of them are hauled by two Be 4/4 railcars. The railcars were previously used in passenger service but were replaced there by newer low floor railcars.
Loading in Finsterhennen takes approx. 30 minutes, unloading in Sutz only seconds. No further shunting is needed and so the service is quite efficient. On normal weekdays the train runs up to three times from the mine to the plant and back.
Unfortunately the future is a bit uncertain because the mine tends to be emptied and the next one to be used has no rail access... |
