        The Deseret Power Ry. is definitely a class act. This shot of their office, shop, yard and flood loader shows why. Look how neat and clean it is: no trash, no junk, no weeds, everything neatly organized and look at that pristine power. Those E60’s were built in 1983 and are now 32 years old. The first two units have both been in heavy haul service all that time. In the background, where the white pickups are parked, is the entrance to the offices. Go through the door and up the stairs to the second level and you are in the office area. No receptionist, just a couple of offices for the Shift Supervisors Rick Quinn and Stan Sheridan, a crew room and Superintendent Marty Belmont’s office. Most of the large metal building consists of the two tracks used for repair and maintenance on the E60’s and the coal hoppers. Out of sight behind the building are 3 ex NdeM E60 electrics slowly being stripped for parts. In the mid distance, on the right is the railroad’s 4th active E60, not needed today as the usual power consist of 3 of the electric units is already well into the loading process of the afternoon train. If you look closely in the background, just to the left of the building you can see the last hopper in the train as it slowly comes around the loading loop. It looks like there is about another hour to go before the train is fully loaded. After the train is loaded, the head end will be very close to the spring switch at the main line connection. The loading crew will tie down the train and wait for the arrival of the swing shift crew at 4PM. The swing shift crew will then do an air test and take the train the 35 miles to the Bonanza Power Plant. One morning train; one afternoon/evening train and maybe a night train. It's been like this 4 days a week for a very long time.
