    Remarks & Notes
Colorado’s famous Joint Line starts here. Already running on Rio Grande rails, Santa Fe F7A 247 heads an ABBBA set of F’s out of Denver on a hazy April morning, bound for La Junta via Colorado Springs and Pueblo. The Joint Line begins in the background at right, at South Denver Tower, and this train will remain on Rio Grande tracks for about 28 miles, then at Sedalia switch to home rails for the climb to Palmer Lake. (Confused railfans can remember the southbound line is always on the west, or mountain side, the northbound on the plains side.) A note for modelers: Unlike its companions in this all-F7 consist, the second unit lacks a stainless steel grill, so we can guess it was originally part of ten ABBA sets, 259 through 268, delivered to the Santa Fe in the fall of 1951 with chicken wire instead of grills.

Aside from Warbonnets and Chiefs, Santa Fe was a workaday railroad like any other. This album showcases that less glamorous--but no less vital--side of the famous ATSF.
