| DMIR 403 leads cars of taconite rock towards the United Taconite Fairlane plant in Forbes, MN nearly completing the 10 mile trip from the mine near Eveleth, MN. The plant, once owned by the Ford Motor Co. produced its first pellets in 1965 and has an annual rated capacity of 5.2 million gross tons per year. Ford's influence remains today in the names of the mine's facilities-the Thunderbird Mine and the Fairlane plant which can still be out on the building.
