    Remarks & Notes
Working hard at Dalton. Engineer Jeff Stebbins has DRGW 484 hooked up as he watches the craziness at Dalton crossing from the best seat on the train. His water bag hung from the cab window gives just an extra bit of authenticity to this already very realistic recreation of a 1960s Cumbres Turn. The 484 is pouring out a continuous, inky black plume now, as the Fireman maintains the delicate balance of near maximum steam pressure without lifting the pops. In the distance, the volcanic eruption behind the Dalton sign is the equally inky plume of helper engine 489, as she pushes for all she's worth on the rear of the 17-car train. The sound made by this combination alone is worth what it cost to sponsor this train.

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad are all that remains of the legendary Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge system. Here you'll find some of my favorites from these two beautiful railways.
