On withdrawal from service all of the A1 class were broken up. A group of enthusiasts felt that such an important class of locomotive should be recreated. Having a set of drawings, money was raised by enthusiasts for the building of Tornado. Tornado has appeared in a variety of liveries, the one shown here is 'Apple Green' which it would have carried when first entering service, before 'Brunswick Green' was chosen by British Railways.
