| Drifting down the Cajon grade a load of continuously welded rail trail a pair of EMD SD70Ms on the former SP Palmdale-Colton cutoff. This is roughly MP 473 on Union Pacific's Mojave Subdivision below Canyon siding as the tracks meander down grade through a few rock cuts. Completed in 1967 the Palmdale to Colton 'cutoff', built by the Southern Pacific, continues to serve as UP's principle link between northern and southern California by way of the Tehachapi's and the San Joaquin Valley. |
