One of the Maryland Midland’s four ex-Burlington Northern SD24’s stands by the Highfield, Maryland office. The EMD is on the former Western Maryland main line to Baltimore, while the track on the left is the WM’s “Dutch Line”, which worked its way east though southern Pennsylvania via Gettysburg, rejoining the main line at Emory Grove, Maryland. The Maryland Midland started acquisition of the main line from Highfield to Emory Grove the year before this photo, while the Dutch Line remains on the CSX map.
