Amtrak’s westbound Cardinal approaches its station stop in Hinton, West Virginia. Passenger trains on the C&O main are having their troubles today, as is evidenced by the B&O GP40-2 helping an apparently ailing Amtrak F40PH. Because NKP 765 is in the Hinton engine terminal with the minor derailment, the New river train has only recently begun its return to Huntington with diesel power. Because the Amtrak train will overtake the excursion before it gets to Huntington, a GP40-2 with a private car scheduled to be transferred to the rear of the Cardinal in Huntington waits in the distance to be shove the car onto the rear of the Cardinal here in Hinton.
