    Remarks & Notes
Looking like a model railroader's kitbashing project, Rock Island GP40 4710 sits in the deadline in North Little Rock, Arkansas, in May 1985. The deadline is made up of former Rock Island and Western Pacific locomotives. Behind RI 4710 are three Western Pacific U23Bs (2265, 2253 and 2261) and a trio of Rock Island GP40s, 353, 357 and 4703 – all sitting in limbo as the UP decides what to do with these excess locomotives. These are engines that are either already scrapped, are in deadlines, or they're in severe danger of being scrapped. Not everything can be preserved.
