The depot in Mineral Bluff, GA, sits on the now abandoned line that ran between Blue Ridge, GA, and Murphy, NC. It was built in 1887 by the Marietta & North Georgia Railroad and is the last remaining depot of that line. It is also the oldest building still standing in Fannin county today.
Eventually the M&NG was absorbed by "the Old Reliable" Louisville & Nashville railroad, which ultimately became CSX. Passenger service ended here in 1962, but freight service continued until 1990.
By 2000 the depot had fallen into serious disrepair. With funding from the federal Transportation Enhancement program, the community began renovating the building in 2007. It was added to the National Register of Historical Places that same year.
Today the depot is home to the Tri-State Model Railroaders who have open houses several times a year when you can see their layout in action and check out the inside of the depot.
