Union Pacific SD70M No. 5147 and GP40M-2 No. 1481 are in the Downing B. Jenks shop for overhaul on May 18, 2014. The former Southern Pacific was numbered No. 7111 after being rebuilt from a Baltimore and Ohio GP40, and will lose its patched scarlet and gray colors in the paint shop once the current rebuild is done.
Do you ever wonder what is inside a locomotive, and how they run. Check out these photos from the shops to see locomotives taken apart to be repaired or rebuilt. It is cool to be able to see the hearts and organs of these steel horses.
