Exhibiting severe corrosion issues in its skin, the 4876 is crossing John Street, heading back to the yard to await its next trip to Penn Station, New York. Note the graffiti scrawled in the dust on the nose. No. 4876 was built by Altoona/Westinghouse in January, 1939. One of 16 surviving Gs, the 4876 was most famous for crashing through the Washington DC Union Station bumper post on January 15, 1953 at the point of The Federal Express. It also tripleheaded with sister 4877 and F40PHR 363 on June 6, 1981, pulling the Amtrak-Conrail-Lancaster Chapter NRHS "Farewell to the GG-1" Amfleet excursion train.
