An eastbound freight from Minneapolis climbs the grade out of the Chippewa and Eau Claire River valley as it heads into Altoona yard. GP50 no. 5099 is brand new having been built earlier this month. This possibly could be its second trip since it would have come northwest from Chicago prior to this eastbound run. This would be CNW's last GP50 and last new four axle high horse power locomotive. Disappointed with GP50 and later SD50 performance, CNW would buy some SD60s that were intended for Soo Line, then switch to GE.
