An eastbound E44-powered Conrail freight skirts the river hills along Water Street. I can vividly remember my grandparents taking me at age 6 to a New Year's Eve 1965 service at the Methodist church across the street. Exiting the church at twelve midnight, we were treated to an eastbound train powered by E-44s with their traction motor blowers howling; my grandmother said, "there's your first train of 1966!" Lead locomotive 4458 in this photo was built by General Electric for the Pennsylvania Railroad in May, 1963.
