SLRG 578 sits in Ranlo, NC, looking rather out of place on the P&N in Lehigh Valley paint. The P&N leased the 578 along with 576 to do freight service on the short line. They were originally going to pull the "Train to Christmas Town" but were in no condition to do so. These two F units made not even a months visit to Ranlo. The units couldn't do anything but sit at P&N headquarters in Ranlo costing them around $1,000. The short line decided to ship them off to a railroad in Mississippi. Today they were picked up at the Norfolk Southern interchange in Gastonia, NC, by P43 and as of now are sitting in Linwood yard in Spencer, NC, ready to make the long journey down south.
Photos of North America's favorite First Generation locomotives. EMD, ALCO, Baldwin; essentially anything that represents the OG wide cab diesel locomotive
