NORMAN OK Oct 8 1979 -- With a contrail of the competition overhead the last southbound Lone Star comes to a stop. The train was discontinued by Amtrak a week earlier but a lawsuit forced Amtrak to run this much-reduced version of trains 15 and 16. In this photo Amtrak Agent Charlie Bandt (left) is at trackside to bid farewell to passenger service and his job. Years later passenger service was restored when the state subsidized an Oklahoma City to Fort Worth and return train named the Heartland Flyer.
