The Nickel Plate Heritage Unit leads NS Train 145 past Birmingham on the NS Kansas City District-BNSF Brookfield Sub. on Main Track 1. Coincidentally I was headed to Chicago to shoot none other than Nickel Plate 765. This trip is off to a good start already.

This engine's progress was delayed the previous evening in Decatur, IL when a car hit the side of the 8100 and spun into the second unit.
