On to Log Cabin. Charging north from Fraser to Log Cabin, the White Pass Rotary Fleet encounters little resistance from the generally thin cover of snow in the wide open spaces around Lake Fraser. Strong winter winds have scoured away most of the loose snow, depositing it in large drifts along the treeline on the west shore. At this rate, Superintendent Hanousek believes we'll have no problem making it all the way to Bennett before the end of the day, completing the spring plowing operation. In less than a mile however, fortunes will change for our rotary crew as they approach Ptarmigan Point, where the west shore of the lake meets a high, tree-covered bluff. There, they'll find a drift so long and deep that it will require more than 30 minutes of intense plowing to clear. That delay will be just enough to throw a monkey wrench into the boss' plan to finish up today.
