An eastbound Union Pacific freight snakes through Palisade Canyon, Nevada, on Track 2 on March 7, 2012. Both Southern Pacific and Western Pacific built their main lines through here alongside the Humbolt River. UP owns them both and uses each directionally, giving it a double-track route through this rugged landscape.
