        Big Blue's Newest
Detail of CR C39-8 6007, temporarily assigned to static display on Track 10 at the Harrisburg Transportation Center during the dedication of PRR GG1 4859 on November 15-16, 1986.

According to Conrail’s handout “A Guide to Our Equipment Display”:
        Conrail's Locomotives
Reliable locomotive power is prerequisite for moving our customers' freight safely and on schedule. Conrail's fleet of approximately 2,600 locomotives includes technologically advanced models. Their increased power and fuel-efficiency have helped Conrail to do more work with each locomotive, while using less fuel. As a result of Conrail's continuing efforts to upgrade its locomotive fleet and maintain it in superior condition, the number of road failures per million gross ton miles on the Conrail system has decreased 86 percent since 1981. On the average, our locomotives are 52 percent more productive (in gross ton-miles per locomotive) today than they were in 1976. And today's locomotives also average about 39 percent more work per gallon of fuel than Conrail's locomotives in 1977. The locomotive on display today is one of the newest in the Conrail fleet.
        C39-8 Locomotive
This 3900-horsepower, 6-axle locomotive is one of the newest to join Conrail's fleet of locomotive power. It was built by General Electric and delivered to Conrail during the summer of 1986. The locomotive is assigned to pool service around the Conrail system, and is maintained at the Collinwood Diesel Terminal in Cleveland, Ohio. Among its features is a microprocessor unit that can monitor the operating performance of the locomotive and pinpoint the cause of any problems. The locomotive weighs 195 tons and is more than 70 feet long.

Generally speaking, shots where less than a full engine is shown. But I want to feature details, not half engines or full cabs, and definitely not full nose shots. Just shots where someone has zoomed in with purpose.
