Heading for Cuesta Grade

Amtrak train #14, the northbound (westbound in Southern Pacific's timetable) Coast Starlight, departs San Luis Obispo, California, on July 1, 1976 (Amtrak's five-year and two-month anniversary). This 17 car train is led by a pair of (reverse) consecutively numbered two-year-old SDP40Fs: 570 and 569. This train is four-hours and forty-minutes (and 223 miles) into its journey from Los Angeles, California, to Seattle, Washington.
