Looking down the right of way, one wonders...is this this Central Valley or the Santa Maria Valley? In reality, it's a warm morning in the small community of Betteravia, located just west of Santa Maria. A stranger to the Santa Maria Valley Railroad's rails that has many locals confused, ex-Santa Fe GP-7 No. 1322 trundles down the jointed-rail main west toward Guadalupe to pick up this morning's train. The 65-year-old GP is currently being leased to the SMVRR and has served almost daily as the railroad's main motive power following exciting rises in traffic for the line's industries scattered throughout Santa Maria.
