This Penn Central train was basically the pre-Amtrak ancestor of the Boston section of the Lake Shore Limited. NYC/PC trains 427 and 428 operated between Boston and Albany, connecting at the latter point with New York-Chicago service. On a June morning, former New York Central E8 4053 led eastbound #427 off the Connecticut River bridge and into the station at Springfield, MA.
