Making the most of the 10 mph speed limit over the rickety, jointed rail that is the Fillmore & Western Railroad's Santa Paula Branch, UP 1381, ex-Southern Pacific No. 7624, leads two loaded covered hoppers west towards the Limco station sign on a humid afternoon in Ventura County. Today's run to Santa Paula was reported to likely be the last run the Oxnard local will make on this branch until September as Spears Manufacturing, who's loaded cars are pictured here behind the 39-year-old GP40-2, is preparing to reorganize and consolidate their future rail shipments. While there are occasional trips needed for work at the Santa Paula's team track...this is very infrequent.
