Bridge out! Where? To look at this picture no one would think that approximately 55 hours prior, 5 loaded grain cars derailed and completely wiped out the previous bridge and spilled all their contents into the river below. Within hours of the derailment/accident, cleanup and repair crews where in route to put the little short line Chesapeake Western back in business. Working around the clock non stop, they have made short work of the derailment having already replaced the damaged bridge and track. Seen here, in the pouring rain, the track crew is checking the gauge and track alignment. I was told trains should be rolling again early Thursday morning or afternoon with extra crews working to make up for the lost time due to the derailment. No one was injured in the accident and thanks to all involved in getting the Chesapeake Western or to us locals, the "Crooked & Weedy" back on track!

July 5, 1895 CW moved its first load of freight and although its existence is merely on paper today, its roots run deep. 130 years and still moving freight. The CW operates as a subsidiary of Norfolk Southern.
