Standing at the Glencoe road crossing, it was a race between the rapidly setting sun and the advancing shadows to my back versus the arrival of westbound freight Q353. Fortunately, I had an 80-200 mm zoom on the camera. Although I had to zoom more than I had planned, I was fortunate to catch Q353 amid blazing fall foliage in the sweet late afternoon light. A few more seconds and the complete scene was in shadows.
The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
