With a light haze on the stack, SP 4449 leads the Cascades Daylight 2017 out of Bend as it splits the searchlight signals at NSS Deschutes as it heads for Prineville Junction for a date with the wye there. Watching an active Southern Pacific steam locomotive split a pair of searchlight signals while running on Track Warrant Controlled territory reminds one how many things have changed, and yet, how some haven't.
The Oregon Trunk, the route most well known for the Deschutes Railroad War, still sees BNSF-and at times detouring UP-traffic today. This album covers all images taken along the line between Celilo and Chemult, Oregon.
