After a group of people had gathered for their annual celebration in Cheboygan there were so many folks wanting to go home that an extra coach was required to handle all the passengers. Since the morning RDC 3 heading south from Mackinaw City didn't have sufficient power to pull the added car, NYC 5538 was attached to the head end of this unusual train to handle the extra load. This photo was taken at Bay City, Michigan as the lengthened train was on its way to Detroit.
